From Winter

Tina Fulker

that we are destined
to make love in single beds
means we can survive

summer and we are together again
we are a couple
extreme
as the seasons
we choose to meet
each other in

I'm washing my nylons out
in your hotel room
here where the light
is not lost
and my son sleeps gently
beneath the window

and what now
is my greatest fear
that having flown to me
you should tire of circling
the same sea

but even then
out on the clearest horizon
the light houses
would be waiting

their shutters open
washed in waves
of my own tears

7.7.77.
you arrived
a crowd
in my small day

did you notice
how I splintered
how each particle
of light broke
and re-shaped itself
again
