A Long Absence

Joseph Lisowshi

Things are not the same.
My wife eats dahlias for breakfast
they spread in her cheeks
expand in her belly
so that she rises
at least 3 ft. above me.
Could I have been away
so long?

My children are
as big as she
only now
when they talk
I hear chagall.
I ask myself
what is this?
where am I?

"What are you doing
down there," they cry!
